M-Omulimisa is a digital agriculture company in Uganda that connects farmers, cooperatives, VSLAs, agribusinesses and development partners to mobile-based agricultural advisory, AgroMet advisory, market intelligence, agriculture insurance, DigiSave VSLA digitisation, mobile learning and village agent support.

Through mobile apps, USSD services and a commission-based village agent network, M-Omulimisa helps even remote farmers access essential agricultural information, inputs and services. Our work supports smallholder farmers with the tools, technology and partnerships needed to improve productivity, build resilience and access better markets.

After our group was assessed, we secured an input loan of UGX 5,000,000 ($1,428). I received 2 kgs of improved sunflower seeds valued at UGX 120,000. With guidance from the sunflower production messages sent by M-Omulimisa, I followed the recommended planting practices, including proper spacing. After harvesting, I sent the keyword ‘wel’ to 8228 and instantly received market price updates for sunflower from buyers in Lira. Thanks to this information, I sold my harvest at a favorable price and earned UGX 600,000 ($166.60). This support from M-Omulimisa has been transformative!

Previously, we were losing a significant portion of our members’ coffee to other buyers because we lacked the financial capacity to purchase from them at competitive prices. Our margins were too slim to offer rates that matched the market, with our highest price for cherries capped at just 2,300 UGX. However, with access to the new market and the additional premiums from organic and Fairtrade certifications, we can now offer better prices and compete effectively. There are a number of poultry farmers in this sub-county and you know with poultry, unlike crops, a disease like Newcastle is highly contagious and fatal if left untreated for even a few days.
